Frequently Asked Questions About Life Insurance

Can I Buy Life Insurance if I’m Ill?

Yes, life insurance is available to people who are ill.  The type of policies available depends on the type and degree of the illness.  Depending on the type of illness you may still qualify for either a term or a permanent policy.  If your illness is more severe there are special risk insurance carriers available.

Additionally, you can also qualify for a Guaranteed Issue policy which does not require medical tests and a health questionnaire, but the coverage amounts are much lower. These policies cost more, and you may only be eligible to receive your premiums plus a specific amount of interest if you were to die within the first 2 years.

Can I get Life Insurance without a Medical Exam?

Yes, there are a number of life insurance policies which do not require a medical exam. This is only for term insurance policies or a ‘Guaranteed’ insurance policy.  However, you will still have to answer a health questionnaire to qualify for the term insurance policies.

There are also age, term limits and death benefit restrictions that would apply. Additionally, these policies cost more than policies which require a medical exam because the insurance company has less information and considers you a higher risk to insure.
